The wait may be explained by technical hurdles. Direct frame extraction must respect codec support, color spaces, and metadata roadmaps that are invisible to users. HDR video, in particular, complicates matters. An iPhone can record Dolby Vision footage that looks stunning on its own display, but when that frame becomes a still image, its color and luminance rendering might change drastically on a non-HDR monitor, a Windows PC, or a social media platform that recompresses the file. Early testers should verify how HDR frames behave when exported and opened in different apps before relying on them for critical work.
